Frequently Asked Questions

About Joining

Can anyone join LRPC?

Membership is open to individuals over 18 who pass a Level 2 background check and complete our application requirements. We welcome shooters of all skill levels who share our commitment to safety, responsible gun ownership, and community values.

How long does the membership process take?

The Blue Card Process typically takes 4-8 weeks from application to approval. This includes background check, orientation, safety training, match participation, board review, volunteer hours, and general membership approval. Most requirements can be completed in any order to fit your schedule.

Can I visit LRPC before applying for membership?

Yes! We welcome prospective members in two ways:

  1. Public matches - Attend one of our monthly competitions (see the Calendar for match dates). Match participants use the designated range and can meet members afterward to ask questions about the club. For safety and security, unescorted exploration of the facility is not permitted. If you're interested in seeing our ranges, please contact us to schedule a tour.

  2. Facility tours - Contact us to arrange a comprehensive tour of our 28-acre facility. We'll show you all our ranges and answer your questions about membership.

Can I bring my family?

Yes! Members can bring guests at no charge (two may shoot simultaneously under your direct supervision). Youth ages 7-17 can also participate in our free Junior Program (first Saturday in October through April).

About Our Facility

Do you have Range Safety Officers?

LRPC operates on a self-policing model. Every member completes safety training and shares responsibility for maintaining a safe environment. Members have the authority to stop unsafe actions immediately and correct rule violations. This trust-based approach is part of what makes LRPC a true club rather than a commercial range.

What are your range hours?

Our ranges are open from 8 am - 8 pm, 365 days per year. Members have access to the facilities via their club ID card.

Are there restrictions on what firearms I can use?

We welcome rifles, pistols, and shotguns appropriate for target shooting. We do not allow drawing from holsters except in specifically approved training classes. Our focus is traditional target shooting and marksmanship rather than tactical training. Specific caliber and ammunition restrictions apply - see our Safety & Range Rules page for details.

About Matches

I've never shot a competition match. Will I be out of place?

Not at all! Many of our match participants started as first-timers. The Match Directors explain procedures before each stage, and experienced shooters are always willing to help newcomers. Matches are a great way to meet members and improve your skills in a friendly, supportive environment.

Do I need to be a member to shoot in matches?

We have several regular matches that are open to the public. Members receive a small discount on match fees, but everyone is welcome to participate.

About Membership Benefits

What's the volunteer work credit program?

Members can earn $10/hour credit toward their annual renewal by volunteering at gun shows, matches, the Junior Program, work parties, or other club activities. Many members significantly reduce or even eliminate their renewal costs this way. (Note: Work credits apply only to renewals, not first-year membership. However, first year memberships are pro-rated, based on when you join.)
